Stage 1 – “Listen and Respond: The Musicality of Walking”
Level: Beginner / Intermediate

 “Listen and Respond” is the heart of tango: every step emerges from mutual listening and the music itself.

In this stage, we will work on walking and salida in the two fundamental tango styles — parallel and cruzado — discovering how small variations in energy, direction, and pauses can transform the same sequence into something alive and musical.

We will learn to recognize and “translate” into dance the differences between marked rhythm and lyrical phrasing, understanding when the body can accentuate the beat or breathe with the melody.

A varied salida, including walking in parallel and cruzado, will guide us through this journey of communication, listening, and shared musicality.

 For those who want their walking to speak and the music to breathe inside the embrace.

Stage 2 – “Dialogue in Motion: Sacadas, Short Turns, and Small Volcadas”
Level: Intermediate / Advanced

Description for students / promotion:

 Tango is a dialogue in motion.
In this stage, we will explore how to create small circular dynamics — sacadas, short turns, and light volcadas — to enrich the dance without losing connection, control, or musicality.

We will focus on precision in contact and timing, learning to feel when to enter a sacada or hint at a volcada without forcing, simply “listening” to the shared energy.

Everything is designed for social milonga: short, elegant, musical movements that adapt to space.

 For those who want to make their tango richer, more fluid, and communicative — always in listening.

Giancarlo Pastonchi – Energy. Sensitivity. Music.
“Tango is like a smile that opens our hearts to a sense of wonder; the depth it conveys has nothing to do with heaviness. On the contrary, it is filled with lightness and amazement.”
In 2008, I discovered tango, which shaped me both in dancing and in my understanding of tango music and culture, thanks to my teachers Marco Evola and Laura Mommi. I studied with them consistently, eventually becoming their assistant and later a teacher in the stable courses for the Scuola Traspié.
In December 2014, I co-founded the Associazione Alchimia with Emanuela Filippelli, with whom I have taught in Perugia and Montepulciano.
I have studied with many teachers, but in greater depth with Javier Rodriguez, Maria Plazaola, Ricardo Viqueira, Carlitos Espinoza, and Osvaldo Roldan.
Since 2022, I have been living in Milan, where I work as a teacher offering both group and private lessons and as a Tango DJ (TJ) in the city’s milongas. One of my strengths is my ability to create cohesive groups of tango dancers. I teach not only the fundamental techniques but also promote the sharing of emotions and a sense of connection among my students, fostering a community of tango enthusiasts.
My private lessons are highly tailored to the needs of each student. Every session is designed to address individual requirements, ensuring skill development and confidence in tango. My goal is to help each student discover and express their unique tango!
